The Federation of Indian Plywood and Panel Industry (FIPPI), an apex industry body established on 2 November 1961, was formed at a time when India was laying the foundations of industrial self-reliance. Established in Kolkata in response to a collective need for a unified industry platform, FIPPI was created with the support of industry, trade, and government, and was inaugurated by Shri Manubhai Shah, the then Minister of Industry, Government of India. Initially bringing together regional plywood manufacturers’ associations, the Federation has evolved from a representative industry body into a unified and influential voice of the plywood and panel sector. Today, it comprises manufacturers and regional associations engaged in the production of plywood and panel products across the country and actively engages in policy advocacy to advance sectoral interests and promote sustainable and competitive growth. Over the years, FIPPI shifted its headquarters to New Delhi to facilitate closer engagement with the Central Government and has played a significant role in consultations and advocacy on issues related to transport, excise duty, customs tariffs, forestry, tree plantation, environment, and forest conservation.
FIPPI’s vision is to empower the growth, sustainability, and global competitiveness of the Indian plywood and panel industry through collaboration, innovation, stewardship, and advocacy. The Federation envisions an ecosystem defined by sustainability, technological advancement, and global relevance, where responsible practices and continuous improvement enable the sector to meet domestic needs while reflecting India’s capabilities on the world stage. Guided by this vision, FIPPI’s mission is to build a robust and inclusive organization representing firms, companies, associations, and individuals engaged in the plywood and panel industry in India, nationally and internationally. It seeks to foster cooperation among members, advocate for supportive policies and institutions, promote quality, competitiveness, and sustainable sourcing, and enable continuous improvement in manufacturing standards, technology, and knowledge sharing—thereby strengthening national competitiveness and positioning the sector for a larger role at both national and global levels.
