Oriented Strand Board

Oriented Strand Boards (OSB) are multi-layered panels made from strands of wood of a predetermined shape (typically, 15 - 25 mm wide, 75 - 150 mm long, and 0.3 - 0.7 mm thick) bonded together with a binder (often water resistant) under pressure and heat. The strands in the outer layers are aligned parallel to the long board edge and to the production line. Whereas the strands in the core layer are often smaller and can be randomly oriented, or aligned, generally at right angles to the strands of the face layers, widely used in construction, furniture, packaging, and interior applications. India’s OSB manufacturing landscape includes both indigenous producers and suppliers/distributors serving pan-India markets. Notable manufacturers and brands include Strandply LLP (producing India’s first large-scale OSB plant in Rajkot/Morbi), Khemka Plyland (Bengaluru-based OSB and wood panel maker), Europack (Mumbai supplier of OSB boards), Greenstrand OSB, and other producers/packagers such as ABIA Systems, Indiana Enterprises, J. P. Timber & Co., Dhanuka Enterprises, and Vishal Timber & Ply that manufacture or supply OSB for structural and non-structural applications across India. The applicable Indian Standard for oriented strand boards is IS 19267:2025 — Oriented Strand Boards — Specification, published by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). This standard defines OSB, its classification, and the technical requirements (such as raw material criteria, mechanical performance, dimensional tolerances, and intended use categories) for uncoated OSB panels used in general, furniture, and load-bearing applications.
